PowerPoint

I think PowerPoint is a great tool to use in the classroom! If my future classroom has a smartboard, I would love to use PowerPoint to create an everyday routine of slides we begin the class with. I can include sound and games, etc. I think it is a great tool to show images and link to websites.

It is useful when it is used as a tool to enhance what you are teaching. It is NOT useful when it is the only method you use for instruction. Students need some hands-on instruction as well (especially at the younger levels).

So, overall I think it is a great educational tool when used in moderation and used to enhance instruction with images, important facts, sounds, internet links, etc.

Here is a PowerPoint I created! ...

I think we have a lot of the same ideas about the uses of PowerPoint. Speaking of PowerPoint, I really like the one you created. Very good!

Nice powerpoint! I'd like to see more reflection in your post though -- be sure to explain why when you say "great tool", etc. and give some solid examples that show thought and critical reflection! 8/10

Hi Ashley,
As you dream, it would be great to have in (a near) future classroom with smartboard. This would substitute the .PPT, don't you think? Besides sound and games, there are ample of other uses. You should check http://www.actden.com/pp for further applications if you like.
Besides for cultural purposes, I believe the use .PPT is a very good tool for vocabulary tools. By running the slides, with the words appearing with pictures (even sound, when appropriate) it may help our students to remember the meaning.
I have posted a couple of articles on my blog about the use of .PPTs if interested.
Good luck!
